Migraine Remedies
Migraine is a feeling of pain in the head that often pertains to half or part of the skull. Usually the attack is periodic and it is unilateral. Often it is accompanied by visual disturbances and vomiting. Vomiting some times benefit the patient in getting relieved from pain.
It is believed that this arises due to disturbance in the carotid or vertebro-basilar vascular structure. In the initial stage, vasoconstriction causes the brain stem ischemia and in later stage vasodilatation happens. Thus both extra and intra-cranial arteries are affected by these changes and pain is prominent clinically. Muscle contraction prolongs the period of pain feeling. Heredity plays an important roll in migraine.
Migraine generally starts at puberty and continue up to late middle age. Emotional stress is linked in majority of the cases and it occurs in paroxysms. The attacks are having intervals from days to several months and the intervals are not certain. The initial symptoms are due to vasospasm. Visual disturbances like floating lines or spots before eyes are common during the beginning of the attack. In rare cases weakness of one half of the body is felt, numbness in both hands and around mouth are also presented. This stage is followed by pain in particular spots and spread of the pain is confined to half of the skull.
