Electronic Cigarette History

The electronic cigarette was devised in 2003 by a Chinese druggist named Hon Lik. It was introduced into the Chinese market in 2004. It began to be marketed abroad from 2005 by Golden Dragon Holdings, the company where Hon worked.

The Electronic Cigarette Association is the body that includes all private companies in trading of electronic cigarettes.

Are Electronic Cigarette Dangerous?

Electronic Cigarettes were first popularized as a safer way of nicotine intake. While Electronic Cigarette consumption is safer than having actual cigarettes filled with tobacco, they are not really a total safe option.

Read on to know about some of the main Electronic Cigarette dangers.

Diethylene Glycol

Electronic Cigarettes are found to contain an anti-freeze component known as Diethylene Glycol. It is toxic to humans and can cause health worries on inhalation. This is one of the major Electronic Cigarette side effects.

Other than Diethylene Glycol, e-cigarettes also contain cancer-causing compounds like nitrosamines. If the cigarette accidentally breaks, humans may be exposed to such harmful components.

Bad Marketing

The marketing strategy of e-cigarettes has also come under criticism. Many electronic cigarette brands are being found to offer e-cigarettes in various flavours like mint, orange and chocolate. This can entice smokers as well as non-smokers. This actually promotes smoking rather than curbing it.

Some electronic cigarette juices have caramel and strawberry flavourings that may attract children into smoking.

Health experts argue that electronic cigarettes contain nicotine, the basic element found in cigarettes. In an electronic cigarette liquid nicotine is used. Nicotine is an alkaloid medicine that is harmful for humans. A long drag on the cigarette can make you actually suck some of the liquid nicotine into your mouth. This can be very damaging for health. You have to drag the cigarette slowly for 3-5 seconds, which is not always possible to be careful about.

E-cigarettes also consist of Tetramethylpyrazine. Prolonged exposure to Tetramethylpyrazine can result in brain damage in human beings.

There is also a widespread concern that electronic cigarette consumption may promote drug use. There are reports of liquid nicotine being substituted with liquid THC, a popular potent marijuana resin. If electronic cigarette e liquid is replaced with addictive drugs, it can become highly damaging to health. It can cause further breakdown of the health instead of improving it. In any case, electronic cigarettes do not contribute to health.

That the electronic cigarette costs less is also a factor that can aid its popularity. Many websites offer these devices at a starting price of about 40 pounds. Cartridge refills are available for less than a pound.  This is far lesser than monthly expenditure on actual cigarettes.

Do Electronic Cigarettes cause Cancer?

People often worry whether Electronic Cigarettes give rise to cancer. In electronic cigarette nicotine, flavourings and many other harmful chemicals are used that may have cancerous effects on the body. However, carcinogenic electronic cigarette health risks have not been proved by any study.

Electronic Cigarette Risks for Heart

Electronic cigarette cartridges contain nicotine which can cause heart ailments. Cartridges containing even traces of nicotine can be risky for the health of your heart. The risk can be reduced only by using Electronic Cigarette no nicotine cartridges.

Is Electronic Cigarette Good For You?

It is a fact that no electronic cigarette company is endorsed by any health organization. This is the reason why there has been an effective Electronic Cigarette ban in a number of countries like Canada. While Electronic Cigarettes are less dangerous compared to real cigarettes, they are still a threat to smokers. For an effective removal of smoking habit, it is best to give up smoking completely. It is best not to try to stop smoking with Electronic Cigarettes.

But what Eddie says I have to admit. I have the nicotine dropper. I start to use it right a way. First I was dizzy. Than I had waves that I could not consantrate. Than I could not finish my sentence. After 2 hours . It went gone. Must be the nicotine that I had to get use to instead of the cems of the cigarette

I smoked for 30 years. I’ve tried quitting many times…the patches, nicotine gum, dum-dum suckers, cold turkey…nothing worked. I bought an e-cig and today marks day 28 since I’ve smoked a real cig. I feel great! No more smoke smell on my clothes or breath…no more coughing…my food tastes better…I can smell better…I don’t get out of breath as quickly. E-cigs are bad? Probably, a little. But a way better choice then real smoking!!! I agree that the FDA is losing money on those of us who are choose an alternative to cigarettes and that they would do ANYTHING and SAY ANYTHING up to and including lying to bash the e cig industry. It’s all about the almighty dollar!

Gave up a year ago using the e-cig! My doctor said how well I had done & put me down as a non smoker on record knowing I am still using the e-cig. I don’t think a doctor would have taken this action if he thought the e-cig was in anyway dangerous. I feel so much better, no smelling like an ashtray, my hair & clothes, car & house are always fresh. I use to suffer with chest infections every cold I caught was more like flu with a nasty cough that dragged on for weeks, since using the e-cig I have had 2 colds the past year that lasted all of 3 days with absolutely no cough at all! My teeth & nails are whiter. Even my head feels clearer. I love the fact that when I go to bed & wake up, I DONT wheeze anymore! My chest is completely clear. So thank goodness for the E-CIG!!!

i find this a biased one sided article that isnt backed up with many actual facts.it also turns a blind eye to the positives of smoking an e-cig rather than a regular cigarette.
the whole article hasnt any comparisons to the level of harmful chemicals or the dangers compared to other daily goods. ie a cup of coffee can be classed as bad for you if you really wanted to make an issue of it.
so i will go on what i know from experience. e cigs are better for you than regular cigarettes in everyway. health wise ,safety wise ,socially hygenicaly and financially.
for those who are preaching about them being bad – a.imo you dont know what your talking about and b. do you worry about peoples health as much when you drive past them in your car ? spouting Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen dioxide, Sulphur dioxide, Benzene, Formaldehyde ,Polycyclic hydrocarbons and Lead into the air they breath! i can smoke an ecig for months before i get anything close to the health risk of 5 seconds stuck next to you at a traffic light while on my bike.
i choose to enjoy nicotine , i dont choose to have you poison me with you vehicle exhaust. get real and put the actual dangers into context and stop scaremongering.
any of the above problems in posts are either not connected to e-cigs in anyway and were underlying health problems the person had anyway , or are at most just the slim exeption to the rule that most people who use e-cigs are fine.

I was a 47 year smoker. I coughed up wads of yucky stuff all the time. I was sick of the smell it left on me. So my baby sister bought me an ecig as a help for me to quit. I am now two and a half months a non smoker. Even though I smoked for years I have always been very active and my lungs were clear according to my doctor. But truthfully I think I feel better than I have in years. As far as my home goes I have never smoked inside. I didn’t want to pollute my family’s or my pet’s lungs with my habit. Food taste so much better and I can smell the rain again. I hope to toss the ecig out very soon. I want to be FREE of it all. With 9 grandchildren and being 64 I have a lot to do before I go home to see the Lord. Best of luck to all of you.

After using the ecig for one year I developed glaucoma. I’m hoping it’s just coincidence. Has anyone else experienced this?
