What Occurs in Presbyopia?
In any healthy individual, the cornea and the lens of the eye focus on the light reflected from an object to create an image of it. Both the cornea and the eye-lens refract (bend) the reflected light to focus the image over the retina. The retina is situated on the inner side of the posterior (back) wall of the eyes.
Unlike the cornea, the eye-lens is somewhat flexible. It can change shape with the aid of a circular muscle that enwraps it. This muscle relaxes when you look at a distant object.
